When Zuffa needed someone to step up and face unbeaten Strikeforce heavyweight Daniel Cormier it didn?t take long for Frank Mir let his employers know he was the man for the job. However, if the challenge of stopping Cormier?s momentum wasn?t stiff enough, it now looks like Mir will be taking him on with the added pressure of fighting the former Olympian in his proverbial backyard.
According to multiple reports, Cormier and Mir will mix it up in early November with the event taking place in Oklahoma City. Cormier attended college at Oklahoma State.
Cormier Wants Title-Shot with Win Over Mir
Mir initially stated the bout was set for November 4 ? a Sunday ? in an interview with MMAFightCorner though MMAFighting has since confirmed it will actually go down a day earlier.
Cormier, who is expected to join the UFC?s roster after the match-up, holds an overall record of 10-0 including recent wins over Jeff Monson, Antonio Silva, and Josh Barnett. Comparably, the 16-6 Mir is a former UFC champion with finishes against Mirko Filipovic, Cheick Kongo, Brock Lesnar, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
