Jon Jones: ?The key to my success is preparing for what I?m getting myself into.?

UFC light heavyweight Jon Jones took on a ton of criticism surrounding his decision to turn down a fight with Chael Sonnen on short notice despite Sonnen being smaller, coming off a loss, and not being immersed in a training camp for the fight. However, after hearing Jones talk some about the emphasis he puts on preparation it?s easy to understand why the 25-year old phenom didn?t jump at the opportunity.

?The key to my success is preparing for what I?m getting myself into. By the time I fight I feel as if I know my opponent as well as they know themselves,? explained Jones in an extended preview for his September 22 meeting with Vitor Belfort at UFC 152. ?I know my opponent?s ambition, I know my opponent?s mental state. I know how confident they?re feeling by the way they?re talking. I?m a person who thrives off of being prepared.?

?I haven?t this gotten this far in the UFC by coincidence,? he continued. ?It?s not because I?m a freak athlete. It?s because I?m a great athlete that comes extremely prepared.?

While Jones may not have as much time as he normally would to get ready for Belfort, clearly a month is enough time to cram for the challenge of retaining his title for the third straight time.
