The rollercoaster ride leading up to UFC 153 has been one of the most unique builds in some time. First, fans were left heartbroken when featherweight champion Jose Aldo and light heavyweight star Quinton Jackson were forced out of the event due to injury. Then, after a day of disappointment, the UFC revealed middleweight king Anderson Silva had stepped up and would face Stephan Bonnar. Now, it appears Silva will be joined by a fellow Brazilian legend, as heavyweight icon Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has been booked for a bout with Dave Herman at the October 13 show.
UFC officials have confirmed the match-up.
Nogueira will be returning to the Octagon after nearly a year on the sidelines while healing up from an arm he had broken in a fight with Frank Mir last December. ?Minotauro? has been a staple on the heavyweight scene for the past decade, coming to prominence under the PRIDE banner where he beat the likes of Mirko Filipovic, Dan Henderson, and Josh Barnett. Since joining the UFC he has added victories to his 33-7-1 record over Tim Sylvia and Randy Couture.
Nogueira Says Arm is Back to 100%
The 27-year old Herman entered the UFC with a ton of hype surrounding him, though he hasn?t fully lived up to it yet after suffering losses in his last two tilts. However, ?Pee Wee? is still 21-4 in his career with twenty stoppages.
