Seth Mitchell Nails Down 18th Straight Win, Fifth Straight KO

Brandywine, MD., native and heavyweight contender Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell (pictured above, at right) dropped his man twice in the fifth round, where his opponent failed to beat the second count of referee Jay Nady, on the way to securing his fifth straight knockout and his seventh in his past eight fights against Taurus "The Bull" Sykes (above, at left) on Saturday night's Golden Boy Promotions card at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas.

"I felt good about the fight. I felt like it was a good opponent for me. He was a veteran who gave me some rounds. So it was definitely good for me to go some rounds, being that my previous three fights had gone less than four rounds each," said the 6-foot-2, 28-year-old Mitchell, who was coming off of an Oct. 15, first-round knockout over Derrick Brown. "So it was good to get a couple of rounds in and get my lungs open. I thought that it was a good test for me and I think that I passed the test."

Not only did Mitchell improve his record to 20-0-1 with his 14th knockout, but he also ran his winning streak to 18 consecutive bouts against the 35-year-old Sykes (25-7-1, seven KOs).

"It was pretty much me breaking him down with the body attack from the start of round one, and I just wore him down. That was pretty much just the case. I caught him with a few shots after I saw that he was getting tired in the middle of the third round. That's when I picked up my body attack," said Mitchell.

"I was able to get him out of there, but it was more a case of me pressing the issue and catching him with a good right hand to the temple. Then he went down. He got up at about the 10-count," said Mitchell. "But then, I hit him again, later on, with another grazing right hand that caused a delayed reaction and he went down again. But the second time, he wasn't able to be the 10-count."
