Daley gets first U.S. win since UFC firing then attacks the crowd

Looks like Paul Daley learned nothing from his loss of control at UFC 113. That's when the Brit was taught a wrestling lesson by Josh Koscheck and then decided to sucker punch the winner seconds after the bell had sounded. There was no mercy for Daley. He was cut from the promotion just minutes after the match. Tonight at Shark Fights 13 in Amarillo, Tx., Daley returned to the U.S. for the first time and picked up a tight win over Jorge Masvidal but then once again acted like a fool in the cage. After the incident at UFC 113, Daley has been cast as a villain and when he won a close unanimous decision over Masvidal, the crowd laid into him. But instead of dealing with the booing, Daley decided to do a little trash talking."This is my first fight back in America. You can tell all the fans love me with all the booing. There’s a difference between me and them, I'm getting paid a helluva lot more than them. Your tickets pay my wages," smiled Daley. Nothing gets you back in the good graces like ripping paying customers especially in the minors where it's already difficult to get more than 5,000 ticket buyers at events. It's hard to understand what Daley was angry about. He made his own bed with his loss of control and classless act at UFC 113. Plus fans often boo the winner of a tight fight. You can also throw in the fact that Daley missed weight for this fight against a blown up lightweight. All those factors combined, you'd figure Daley would dial it down a bit and show some humility. Apparently, the 27-year-old isn't capable. Masvidal fought a wise fight against the power punching Brit. Daley has a weakness with his takedown defense and Masvidal exploited it, especially in the second round. He scored takedown after takedown. It appeared Masvidal at least evened the fight up. The first was difficult to score. Both guys fought at range with Daley landing more shots. The Brit won the fight with his work in the third by turning it up a notch in the final 90 seconds. Masvidal missed on a takedown and the scramble left him on his back. That's where Daley unloaded some rapid-fire hammerfists. Daley landed his best punches of the fight after that and score his own takedown with 13 seconds left. That's where he unloaded more of those hammerfists and probably locked up the fight.   "Masvidal is a tough guy. The guy normally fights at 155. He's a beast. He had a great gameplan," said Daley. "(But) when he got me to the ground he really wasn’t active. You could see the work rate was different when I was on top."Daley (25-9) is a top welterweight but looks like he'll be stuck with smaller promotions for the time being.Stepping up on short notice and jumping a weight class, Danillo Villefort did a nice job against Joey Villasenor. The EliteXC and Strikeforce veteran spent much of the fight on his back against Villefort, who's a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt fighting out of American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Fl. Villasenor (27-8) has excellent power in his hands but he never felt safe enough to plant his feet and land a fight changing shot. Villefort (12-3) walked away with a unanimous decision win, 30-27 on all cards.Tarec Saffiedine pulled the mild upset on Brock Larson and did it pretty easily. Larson never got his takedown game going and was chopped liver on the feet. Larson walked backwards most of the fight and left his chin exposed. He was an easy target for leg kicks and right hooks. The 24-year-old won 30-27 on all three cards and moved to 10-2. Larson is now 29-5.
