MMA fans may have experienced some disappointment last week when Strikeforce announced the cancellation of a card scheduled to take place tonight. Fortunately, the UFC was still around to provide the sport?s supporters with a fix in the form of UFC on Fuel 5 and delivered an action-packed card as anticipated.
The event?s lineup featured a headlining battle between heavyweights Stefan Struve-Stipe Miocic in addition to bouts between Matt Wiman-Paul Sass, Brad Pickett-Yves Jabouin, and Dan Hardy-Amir Sadollah.
The main eventers went toe-to-toe with neither man having a decided advantage until Struve opened things up in the second stanza with some well-placed strikes. Eventually he cornered Miocic up against the fence and delivered a flurry of shots that sealed the deal. The victory marked Struve’s fourth consecutive win and the first loss on Miocic’s career.
Meanwhile, Hardy scored a second straight instance of success by outpointing Sadollah in front of the Brit’s hometown fans. “The Outlaw” triumphed as a result of his always-solid stand-up as well as an improved wrestling attack scoring him a number of takedowns throughout their tilt.
