Anderson Silva gunning for first-frame finish of Stephan Bonnar at UFC 153

Over the past few weeks, much has been said about UFC light heavyweight Stephan Bonnar?s durability and for good reason. ?The American Psycho? has never been stopped with strikes or a submission in 22 professional pairings including those against Lyoto Machida and Jon Jones.

UFC 153 opponent Anderson Silva is well-aware of Bonnar?s reputation for toughness and, as a result, wants to put him away in the opening round of their headlining tilt rather than risk involvement in an all-out, fifteen-minute melee.

?This is a tricky night for me Saturday,? said Silva in an interview with the UFC of their meeting this weekend. ?He has good BJJ and brings the fight. If I have the chance, I will finish this fight in one round. Stephan Bonnar always fights so hard. I will have more speed, more agility than him, but I don?t know about the power. So if I see the chance, I will finish this quickly.?

Silva Has Great Respect for Bonnar’s Contributions to the UFC

As evident from his statement, though oddsmakers may not be giving Bonnar a chance, Silva certainly isn?t making that mistake. The polished Brazilian?s reputation as the pound-for-pound best in MMA is on the line, as is an impressive unbeaten streak inside the Octagon.

?I want to retire undefeated in the UFC,? explained Silva on how important a win over Bonnar is to him on a personal front.

Silva is currently 15-0 in the UFC including a series of consecutive title-defenses and a few wins over 205-pounders (like Bonnar) as well including former champion Forrest Griffin.
