This isn't the first time he's dropped his hands in a fight, but it's never come back to haunt him like it did here.
He did it against Stephan Bonnar, and won with a first-round knockout.
He did it against Yushin Okami, and won with a second-round knockout.
He did it against Forrest Griffin, and won with a second-round knockout. He did it against Thales Leites and Demian Maia, as well.
Silva has clowned around in the cage and dropped his hands many times, and it never ended in a UFC loss. Perhaps it was a way to get in his opponents' heads, or it was Silva's way of having fun in the cage. Weidman is the first fighter who could get his hands on Silva as he clowned. It's why he's the champ, and Silva is without the belt for the first time since 2006.
