Benson Henderson thinks Jon Jones got a ?raw deal? after card?s cancellation

It?s hard to believe the controversy surrounding Jon Jones? decision to turn down a fight with Chael Sonnen on short notice is only about a month old considering how much discussion has been had on the matter. For those who have been living under a rock since things unfolded in late August, Jones? need for more time to train resulted in UFC 151 being cancelled and drew staunch criticism from fans, fighters, and even his employers.

One person who feels Jones wasn?t guilty of any wrongdoing in the situation is UFC lightweight title-holder Benson Henderson. The 28-year old offered up his opinion on things in a recent interview where he lent his full support to his fellow champion.

“Jones definitely got a raw deal. All of the onus, all of it, was put on his shoulders. Everything. What about the co-main event? What about bringing in other guys? What about the guys getting injured? There was a lot,? explained Henderson in a conversation with MMAFighting. ?To place everything on his shoulders, I think, was very unfair. He’s fully within his rights to turn down a fight.

“Would he have won? Yeah, he probably would have won. Would it have been a smart decision to make? No, probably not. So I definitely felt bad for him,? concluded Henderson.

“Rampage” Jackson Surprisingly on Jones’ Side

Jones went on to successfully defend his light heavyweight belt a few weeks later by beating Vitor Belfort. Meanwhile, Henderson has his own hands full at the moment, putting his gold up for grabs in December against Nate Diaz at UFC on FOX 5.
