Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told FanHouse recently that he was close to finalizing a deal to match Mexico's 20-year-old WBC silver belt titlist Saul Alvarez against England's Matthew Hatton, the younger brother of former world champion, Ricky Hatton, in an HBO televised fight on March 5 in Los Angeles.

Schaefer had targeted Alavarez (35-0-1, 26 knockouts) for a bout against WBA welterweight (147 pounds) champ Vyacheslav Senchenko (31-0, 20 KOs), but that may not work out.

Schaefer said that Alvarez is close to being able to pursue his 32nd straight win, having stopped 11 of his past 13 opponents, this against the 29-year-old Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KOs), who is coming off of November's third-round knockout of Robert Belge.

FanHouse caught up to Alvarez to discuss the potential match up with Hatton.
