Jon Jones changes course, says fight with Anderson Silva ?can happen?

With the overwhelming demand from fans it?s become nearly impossible for UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones to avoid the topic of a potential fight with pound-for-pound king Anderson Silva. Though his past responses have been somewhat formulaic, denying the likelihood of the bout ever happening, Jones recently broke from the norm and actually showed an openness to facing Silva even if he doesn?t necessarily want to do so.

?I?m not saying that the fight will not happen. It can happen. But it?s not something I?m chasing,? said Jones in an interview with Correio Braziliense. ?I do not believe that you need to fight with Anderson to be the best in the world.?

While Jones? remarks might inspire some hope, ?Bones? was quick to hammer on his point about preferring to avoid a scrap with Silva.

?I really do not want to fight with Anderson. I respect him a lot. As I said several times, I do not want to be the guy who beat Anderson and do not want to be the guy who lost to him,? concluded Jones.

“The Spider” Softening Stance on Fight with Jones

Silva is currently basking in a dominant win over Stephan Bonnar at 205 pounds earlier this month while keeping his options open in case a match-up welterweight title-holder Georges St-Pierre materializes. Meanwhile, Jones is busy with Silva-rival Chael Sonnen, coaching against him on TUF 17 before the two tussle in April.
