After an exciting effort from all, the UFC has its next top contender in the light heavyweight division thanks to a pair of co-headlining bouts between Ryan Bader-Lyoto Machida and Brandon Vera-Mauricio Rua. Though Rua was able to finish Vera after a hotly-contested clash, Machida ultimately came away with the grand prize due to his flattening of Bader in the the second round of their rumble. The ending came after Bader rushed in only to eat a perfectly-placed strike from Machida that dropped him, leaving the former TUF winner unable to defend himself and forcing the referee’s intervention.
The card also featured appearances from Joe Lauzon, Mike Swick, Michihiro Omigawa, Nam Phan, and Phil Davis.
