Gus Johnson Signs With Fox but Stays With Showtime

by Michael David SmithLast week it was revealed that Gus Johnson's contract with CBS had expired, and on Tuesday morning it was reported that Johnson has accepted a job at Fox. But that doesn't mean he's done as the voice of mixed martial arts on Showtime, the sister network of CBS.

Sources told MMAFighting.com that Johnson's contract with CBS was for basketball and football, and that his deal to call fights (both MMA and boxing) for Showtime was a separate contract. That contract is still in effect, and Johnson will call Saturday night's Andre Ward-Arthur Abraham boxing match for Showtime. Although Showtime hasn't yet announced who will broadcast its next MMA show (a June 18 Strikeforce card), Johnson is expected to call that event as well.

Theoretically, it's even possible that Johnson could be back on the CBS airwaves if CBS ever aired another Strikeforce fight: When Johnson called EliteXC and Strikeforce fights on CBS in the past, that was part of his Showtime deal. It's probably a long shot that we'd see Johnson back on CBS, however.

MMA Top 10 Middleweights: Intrigue Grows at 185 Pounds

by Michael David SmithAnderson Silva defended his title against Vitor Belfort at UFC 126.We haven't updated our rankings of the Top 10 middleweights in mixed martial arts in quite some time because, frankly, Anderson Silva has made it a boring division.

That's not to say Silva is boring: When he's on his game, he's as exciting as any athlete this sport has ever seen. And it's not to say the other fighters in the division are boring: There have been plenty of good middleweight scraps over the last few months.

But ranking the middleweight division can get boring because not much changes: It's always Silva on top, and a familiar cast of characters competing for the right to be Silva's next victim.

But there are some indications that the middleweight division in mixed martial arts might be getting a little more interesting. Yushin Okami is finally scheduled to get the title shot that was promised to him months ago, Chael Sonnen is finally getting close to being cleared for a return, and the addition of Strikeforce middleweights (starting in July with Jason Mayhem Miller and likely including Strikeforce champ Jacare Souza soon) may inject some new blood into the middleweight class.

So now is a good time to update our list of the Top 10 middleweights in mixed martial arts, keeping an eye on what's ahead for Silva and the other top fighters.

Adrien Broner Stops Vicente Escobedo In Tainted Performance, Keith Thurman Pretty Good In HBO Debut

We almost didn't get Saturday night's card on HBO because Adrien Broner unprofessionally failed to make weight and put his junior lightweight bout against Vicente Escobedo in jeopardy. Judging from the outcome, we might not have missed much. Certainly, Broner is a visibly sparkling talent whose performances are worth watching, and welterweight Keith Thurman showed on the undercard why he'll be a prospect to watch.

But did we truly need to see a twice-overweight Broner combine his natural ability advantage with a size advantage to whoop a more honest, professional fighter who faced the risk of getting no payday had he turned the bout down? Did we need to see Thurman in a fight that ESPN2 would've gladly aired but that Showtime's ShoBox program for developing prospects might well have rejected? Did we only get this card because of HBO's continued affiliation with influential adviser Al Haymon, even with the network's new leadership? Answers: No, no, and almost certainly.

WWE invades San Diego for Comic Con fun

In the eyes of countless young fans, many of the men and women known as WWE Superstars and Divas aren?t too far removed from the superheroes seen in comic books and on the silver screen. Dan Henderson not thinking about legacy ahead of UFC 151 title shot against Jon Jones

A little more than a month before his light heavyweight title shot against Jon Jones, Dan Henderson isn't worried about his legacy.

A win over Jones would give Henderson titles in the UFC, Strikeforce, PRIDE and RINGS. It also would be a significant upset -and likely would have people reconsidering their best-of-all-time lists. Could Henderson move past Anderson Silva and Fedor Emelianenko as the greatest fighter in history?

"That's not really for me to decide," Henderson told MMAjunkie.com earlier this month. "I'm just out there trying to be the best fighter that I can be, and if people think I'm the best ever, then even better."
