Unlike past UFC on FOX events, the featured prelims air on FX instead of FUEL TV.

In the main FX bout, which follows additional prelims on Facebook, heavyweights Brendan Schaub and Lavar Johnson clash at Seattle's KeyArena.

Manny Pacquiao Dominates Shane Mosley

by Michael David SmithManny Pacquiao defeated Shane Mosley via a unanimous decision in Las Vegas.Manny Pacquiao showed once again why he's the biggest attraction in boxing, dominating Shane Mosley on Saturday night to win a one-sided unanimous decision in the biggest fight of the year.

Although Mosley came out fighting hard with a good first round, it was all Pacquiao from there on. Pacquiao knocked Mosley down in the third and dominated the fight throughout. Technically Mosley knocked Pacquiao down in the 10th round, but in reality Pacquiao fell when Mosley tripped him, and the referee made a mistake in calling it a knockdown. In reality, Mosley never had Pacquiao in any trouble, at any point in the fight.

All three judges awarded it to Pacquiao by lopsided scores: 119-108, 120-108 and 120-107. According to the pay-per-view broadcast, Pacquiao landed exactly 100 more punches than Mosley did (182 to 82) and threw more than twice as many punches (552 to 260).

Tomasz Adamek Defeats Steve Cunningham On NBC, Displaying Best Of And Worst Of Boxing

If anyone who doesn't usually watch boxing tuned in to the show on NBC Saturday afternoon, I hope they changed the channel before the decision was announced. Heavyweights Tomasz Adamek and Steve Cunningham delivered a worthy sequel to their classic cruiserweight fight four years ago, even if it didn't reach those lofty heights. Then ring announcer Michael Buffer read the scores, then read them again, and both times they made no damn sense.

The universal view was that Cunningham deserved the victory. Instead, Buffer announced scores of 115-115, 115-113 for Cunningham and 116-112 for Adamek. That it was a split draw would've been screwing Cunningham enough. But that 115-115 scorecard was odd -- it would've meant the judge, Debra Barnes, scored a bunch of rounds even, which you don't see in boxing judging these days. Seconds later, Buffer announced a correction. Barnes' scorecard was actually 115-112 for Adamek, which is wrong in several ways, too, namely that it turned Adamek into the winner, and it meant that at some point she scored a round so dominantly for Adamek that he got a 10-8 round, something that, in reality, never came close to happening.

Cunningham dominated the first half of the fight with his jab, movement and defense, and Adamek couldn't find him and couldn't pull the trigger, which probably had something to do with Cunningham's intelligent game plan but just as much if not more with the fact that Adamek is old, battle-worn and no longer the offensive machine he once was. You could give Adamek a round here or there, but the first half of the fight belonged to Cunningham.

When Adamek tried to mount one of the mid-round surges we've seen from him before, Cunningham didn't wilt: Rather, the much smaller man (he has only fought at heavyweight twice and was outweighed by nearly 20 pounds) staved off the Adamek charge with nasty power punches. Cunningham's legs look like sticks at heavyweight, but his upper body is legit, and apparently he had enough power to make Adamek think twice. And he stuck to his plan by not engaging in a brawl. His trainer, Naazim Richardson, advised him at one point: "You ain't gotta prove your heart. You gotta prove you're smart."

Adamek did muster an authentic late-rounds surge, finally upping his punch volume and connecting on some big shots to win the 11th and 12th on my card and bring it to a narrow 115-113 Cunningham win. And it's not like there weren't some close rounds, or it wouldn't have been as good a fight as it was. But overall, Cunningham controlled the bout, and in situations like that, the tide of overall opinion favors the fighter in charge. Yet one of the judges -- I didn't catch his name -- thought Adamek won EIGHT rounds. Where he found them, only he knows.

It was a shameful conclusion to an otherwise happy occasion: a quality heavyweight bout on network television, the second weekend in a row when live boxing graced one of the four major networks. The hasty NBC cutoff after this disaster -- commentator Freddie Roach offered a succint, "That's boxing," and this fight likely indeed will reinforce for casual fans that poor decisions are a fact of life in the sport -- didn't exactly help, either.

Adamek moves on to a fight with Kubrat Pulev, and based on quality of performance, I wouldn't favor Adamek in that bout. But based on the fact that Adamek has gotten two straight decisions he didn't deserve -- the first against Eddie Chambers -- I'll pick Adamek to win anyway. Cunningham moves on to Walgreen's, where he'll purchase some Advil and some ointment to help him recover from being screwed.

The undercard bout had its own mysterious conclusion. Heavyweight Vyacheslav Glazkov got a 4th round stoppage win over Tor Hamer after Hamer's corner called it off. We haven't heard yet from them why that happened, but by all appearances Hamer simply quit. Glazkov was the superior fighter in there, and the career boost Hamer got from his win in the U.K. "Prizefighter" TV tournament was evaporating before our eyes under Glazkov's superior speed, timing and hard counters, particularly his left hand. It's hard not to speculate that Hamer, a very intelligent man with a college degree, saw that the fight wasn't going his way and wondered whether he needed this whole boxing thing anymore.

Bellator and ?TUF? to new nights: How your MMA-watching will be different in 2013

Your MMA watching schedule will look drastically different in 2013. You will be able to catch MMA from the UFC and Bellator on weeknights.

According to MMA Junkie, an advertisement in the next edition of UFC 360 (formerly the UFC magazine) said the next edition of the show will air on Tuesdays on FX. Chael Sonnen and UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones are the coaches for the next season. Currently, the show airs on Friday nights, and ratings have taken a nosedive. With a new night and two of their most popular fighters serving as coaches, the UFC is hoping to right the TUF ship.

Bellator announced Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal's debut will air on Jan. 17, a Thursday, according to MMA Fighting. There have also been reports that the promotion's first show on Spike will air on Jan. 10, but only the Jan. 17 date has been confirmed. This signals the promotion's move from Friday to Thursday nights.

The best part of this is that the two promotions won't be fighting for MMA fans' eyes. Tuesday nights are generally light on sports, so the UFC has a chance not just to have MMA fans tune in, but also to pick up new fans.

For Bellator, their season begins when the NFL is in playoffs. They won't have to compete with football on Thursday nights. The new night and the move to Spike -- and a widely available HD channel -- should help to get more eyes on the tournament-based promotion.

Will the night change affect how much you watch "The Ultimate Fighter" and Bellator? Speak up in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

Ronda Rousey: ?I try to have as much sex as possible before I fight?

UFC/Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey appeared on Jim Rome's show on Wednesday. What does the champion use as her training secret? Does she have high-level training methods not available to amateur athletes and workout warriors?

Nope. She likes to have as much sex as possible before fights. Though Mick advised Rocky that women weaken the legs, Rousey believes it has the opposite effect on women.

"For girls it raises your testosterone, so I try to have as much sex as possible before I fight actually. Not with like everybody, I don't put out like a Craigslist ads or anything, but if I got a steady I'm going to be like, 'Yo, fight time's coming up,'" Rousey said.

She is not the first athlete to claim sex has benefits on the field of play. Elias Figueroa, a Chilean soccer player, said his coach advised him to have sex before important games. Argentinian soccer players were advised they could have sex during the World Cup, as long as it was with a regular partner and not accompanied by champagne.

There is little medical evidence that says sex has an effect, positive or negative, on an athletic performance.

"It certainly doesn't fatigue you in any particular way. So if we actually test your strength or your endurance the day after you've had sex, there's no effect," said Ian Shrier, a sport-medicine physician at the Jewish General Hospital at McGill University.

But if there is an exception, it's in combat sports like MMA. Maria Cristina Rodriguez Gutierrez, the director of sports medicine at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, told CNN that sex can reduce aggression.

"For combat athletes like fighters or boxers, having sex before an important fight can reduce the aggressiveness and make them passive," although effects vary from person to person.

It clearly works for Rousey, who has steamrolled every opponent she has faced on her way to the championship and a 6-0 record. She's won every fight with a first-round submission, and she recently was named the first woman in the UFC. Though her opponent and the date for her first UFC fight are currently unknown, UFC president Dana White said her bout will be a main event on a pay-per-view.

Rousey is also a two-time Olympian, and she won a bronze medal for judo in 2008. It was a fight before the Beijing Olympics that made her think she could be successful in the cage.

"Yes. I got in a fight with a couple of guys at the end of 2007 in a movie theater. It was four couples so four guys and one girl tried to get into it. And I had two friends with me. But I was only really handling two guys by myself. They sued me for assault because it didn't really go too well for them. I guess if you lose a fight in Santa Monica the next option is to sue. Everyone in the theater was cheering for me. I was thinking I might have a future in this. It was before the whole MMA thing."

Pacquiao vs. Mosley: Why MMA Fans Should Care

by Michael David SmithManny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley will fight Saturday night in Las Vegas. We'll have full results and live round-by-round scoring for Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley on Saturday night, which may lead to a few readers wondering, What's boxing news doing on an MMA site? Here are five reasons why you, if you're an MMA fan, should care about Pacquiao vs. Mosley:

1. It's the biggest combat sports event of the year.
For as much as the UFC has gained on -- and in some respects surpassed -- the popularity of boxing, the biggest fights in boxing still exceed the biggest fights in the UFC in terms of pay-per-view buys and worldwide media attention. Although the MGM Grand in Las Vegas obviously won't attract nearly as many fans as the 55,000 who came out to see Georges St. Pierre in Toronto, Pacquiao vs. Mosley will surely get more pay-per-view buys in the United States, far more mainstream media attention and far more attention globally, as Pacquiao is a draw throughout Asia and the single biggest celebrity in the Philippines, a country of nearly 100 million people. This is a major worldwide sporting event.

MMA Top 10 Women's Pound-for-Pound

by Michael David SmithGina CaranoThese are uncertain times for women's mixed martial arts. Strikeforce has been the industry leader in female fights, while the UFC has maintained that it has no interest in putting women in the Octagon. So now that the UFC runs Strikeforce, does that mean women's MMA is endangered?

Not necessarily. The Strikeforce women were invited to the UFC's recent fighter summit in Las Vegas, which indicates that Zuffa thinks women have a future within the company, and next month's return of the sport's biggest female star, Gina Carano, will result in a publicity boost for women's MMA.

So as I review the top 10 female fighters in mixed martial arts, I'm confident that it's a list of fighters whose futures are bright. Even if I'm not sure where and when most of them will fight next.

Gus Johnson's Contract Up at CBS

by Michael David SmithGus Johnson, the lead mixed martial arts play-by-play man for CBS who has called many of the most-watched fights in the sport's history, is reportedly leaving the network.

Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated reports that Johnson, who's best known for calling college football and the NFL, is leaving after failing to come to terms on a new contract with the network. UPDATE: The New York Daily News reports that while Johnson's contract with CBS has expired, it's still possible he could reach a new deal.

It's not clear whether Johnson is also out at Showtime, where he has been both a boxing and MMA play-by-play voice. Johnson will still be part of Saturday night's Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley pay-per-view broadcast, but it seems unlikely that Johnson would stick around at Showtime, which a division of the CBS Corporation, for long.

What Nate Diaz looked like after his loss to Benson Henderson (PHOTO)

On the left, you can see what Nate Diaz's face looked like before his UFC on Fox 5 main event bout against Benson Henderson. In the poster for the event, Diaz is sporting a perfect pre-fight mean mug. On the right is Diaz after the fight. That's what he looks like after five rounds in the cage with the champion. He's smiling but his face is swollen and beat up. If you're considering trying MMA, take a look at the two faces of Diaz. You have to be ready for your face to make this kind of change.

MMA Top 10 Featherweights: Aldo on Top, Mendes No. 2

by Michael David SmithJose Aldo has now made his UFC debut and won the UFC's first featherweight title fight, an entertaining if not terribly competitive unanimous decision over Mark Hominick at UFC 129. So what does the UFC do with Aldo from here?

The fight I think the UFC really wants to make for Aldo is against Kenny Florian, who has more name recognition than anyone else on the UFC's featherweight roster. If Florian wins his featherweight debut against Diego Nunes at UFC 131, he'll instantly step into title contention -- and into the featherweight Top 10.

But for now, the No. 1 featherweight appears headed toward an August showdown with the undefeated Chad Mendes -- and on my featherweight rankings, that's the right call.

Jose Aldo would be willing to drop to 135 for bantamweight title-shot

There?s been tons of talk about the possibility of UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo beefing up to fight at 155 pounds, but it turns out the 26-year old Brazilian also believes he could go the other direction to compete as a bantamweight under the right circumstances. Though it?s unlikely to occur anytime soon, especially with [...]

After successful surgery, mess in Macau, David Mitchell primed for UFC victory

More than two years after dropping his UFC debut, things haven't exactly gone David Mitchell's way.

Injuries, surgery and rehabilitation have left Mitchell out of action for more than 15 months - a streak he had hoped to end earlier this month.

Left without an opponent and some 7,000 miles from home, Mitchell admits it was a frustrating plight. Now he's aiming for a January return, and he's anxious to show the world what he can do when fighting at full strength.

UK fighter tries to fake a glove tap, gets knocked out (VIDEO)

At Absolute Adrenaline Platinum in Dorset, England, Adam Fyfe tried to pull the old-fake-a-glove-tap-and-go-in-for-the-knockout shtick. It didn't work. His opponent Alex Thorne recognized it, then came back to knock Fyfe out in 29 seconds.

Fyfe was never taught the old adage that cheaters never win, and winners never cheat.

By the way, eight days after Fyfe was knocked out here, he made his pro debut and was knocked out in less than a minute. The UK regularly hosts the UFC and will do so again in February for an event at Wembley Stadium. It has several burgeoning smaller promotions, but it looks like their regulation leaves much to be desired.

Champ Rockhold calls Larkin attack 'pretty amateur,' eyes early 2013 for return

Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold today told MMAjunkie.com that he never signed a bout agreement to fight Lorenz Larkin and never intended to fight at the promotion's final event.

When officials announced the Jan. 12 event in early November, Rockhold said he informed them a wrist injury lingered and that he was unable to fight.

That's why he's particularly irritated by a series of verbal attacks from Lorenz Larkin regarding his willingness to compete.
